Academic Regulation policy, Examination Regulation policy and Disciplinary policy
Shri Aarna PU college in Bangalore operate under Karnataka Pre-University Board regulations, requiring strict compliance with 75-85% attendance, mandatory uniforms, and a strict ban on mobile phones on campus. Academic rules include regular assessments, while disciplinary policies emphasize attendance, respectful conduct, and zero tolerance for ragging.
Academic Regulation Policy
  • Attendance: A minimum of 80% to 85% attendance is mandatory in each subject to appear for the final examination.
  • Academic Progress: The working day is of six periods which is divided into three sessions. The morning session of two periods, the forenoon session of two periods and the afternoon session of two periods.
  • Every student has to be available from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. on all working days except on Saturdays, for various special classes and extracurricular/co-curricular activities organized by the various academies and associations of the College and for sports and games.
  • Admissions: Pass in 10th Standard or equivalent is required; original certificates are kept by the college until course completion. Original Transfer Certificate and Marks Card are mandatory.
  • Promotion: Students must pass the 1st PUC annual exam to enter 2nd PUC.
  • Uniform and ID card: College uniform is mandatory on all working days. Prescribed college uniform is mandatory. To regulate discipline and uphold decorum, a prescribed dress code is to be followed by students. Students should compulsorily wear ID Card while in the campus.
  • Leave: Absence requires a note signed by parents/guardian; a medical certificate is needed for illness lasting more than 3 days.
  • Absenteeism: Absence for 5-6 consecutive working days without prior informed leave can lead to the student’s name being removed from the rolls.
  • Teaching Hours: Science subjects include 5 hours/week + 2 hours of practical. Arts/Commerce subjects require 4 hours/week. Students are instructed to reach college in time and attend lecturers as per the given time table.
  • Subject Combination: Two languages (one must be English) and four optional subjects.
  • Projects & Assignments: Assignments and project works are compulsory for every subject and the languages. Students must see to it that they complete the assignments and the project works on time and get the signature of the concerned teacher on submission of them. Students who fail to complete the assignments and the project work on time will not be eligible to proceed for the final examination.
  • Each class will have a Lecturer-in-charge of it. For any help – academic and nonacademic – the student and the parent/guardian should contact the lecturer in-charge designated for the class.
  • Every class under the guidance of the class representatives will be responsible for the cleanliness of their respective class room.

Examination Regulation Policy
  • Examinations: Regular tests and end-of-year examinations are compulsory.
  • New Exam System (3 Exam System): Karnataka has replaced the traditional “supplementary” system with three annual examinations (Exam 1, 2, and 3).
  • Passing Criteria (Revised for 2026):
    Aggregate: Students need a minimum of 33% (previously 35%) to pass, effective from 2024-25 session.
    Theory/Practical: 30% in theory and 35% in practical’s (e.g., 24/80 for non-practical, 21/70 for practical subjects)
  • Improvement Policy: Students can improve their scores within the same academic year or the immediately following year.
  • Internal Assessment: 20 marks are awarded for internal evaluation (10 marks based on unit tests/midterm + 10 marks for projects/assignments).
  • Attendance Requirement: Students with shortage of attendance will not be sent to final examinations.
  • Malpractice: Any form of misconduct or dishonesty in exams is strictly punishable.
  • Academic Progress: Failure to meet 30 marks in each subject and an aggregate of 35% will prevent promotion to 2nd year.
  • Cell Phones: Strictly prohibited inside the exam hall and on campus; devices will be confiscated.
  • A student neglecting his/her studies and having unsatisfactory progress will be given two warnings after which, if he/she fails to improve, he/she will be liable for expulsion from the institute.

Disciplinary Policy
  • Mobile Phones and electronic gadgets: Strictly prohibited. Confiscated phones will not be returned until the end of the academic year. Student must abide by the rules and regulations framed by the institute. Usage of mobile phones except for online classes is prohibited in the campus. Students are not allowed to carry with them or use in the campus/college any electrical or electronic gadget like CD players, digital cameras, radios, tape-records etc. without the prior permission from the principal.
  • By the order of the Government of Karnataka use of mobile phones by PU students in the College and in the campus is banned. Students are advised to use the Pay Phone available in the College. Mobile phones impounded from the students will be returned to them only at the end of the current academic year.
  • Behavior: Students must maintain high standards of discipline, punctuality, and decorum. Anti-social activities in any form will be strictly dealt with and strict disciplinary action shall be taken against such students.
  • Ragging & Misconduct: Zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and harassment; punishable under the POSCO Act.
  • Damage to Property: Students must bear the cost of any damage to college property. Students should note that they are answerable to the authorities of the institute for his / her conduct in the premises of the institute. They are expected to not litter in the campus.
  • Leaving Campus: Students cannot leave campus during study hours without permission.
  • Use of Technology: Use of mobile phones, cameras, or electronic gadgets on campus is prohibited.
  • Vehicles: Student four-wheelers are not allowed on campus. Two-wheelers must be parked in designated areas.
  • Conduct: Students must be in the classroom before the final bell. Misbehavior with staff or damaging college property leads to strict disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion.
  • Birthdays: Shri Aarna PU college in Bangalore prohibit birthday celebrations (cutting cakes, etc.) on campus.
  • Students must greet their teachers upon first meeting them within the college premises and in public. Upon the teacher’s entry into the classroom, students should stand until directed to sit or until the teacher takes their seat. During attendance roll call, each student is expected to rise and respond to their name or register number.
  • Students must be in their seats before the bell rings for class. No latecomers will be admitted, and no student is allowed to leave the classroom without the lecturer’s permission or until the class is dismissed.
  • Students are not allowed to come out of their classes or assemble in the corridors during the short break between class hours.
  • During lectures, students must remain in their classrooms. In the absence of a teacher, class representatives should notify the class teacher for alternative arrangements. Free periods are designated for library use, not for games indoors or outdoors.
  • Students shall not stay in the campus beyond 4.30 p.m. Exception will be given only for the tuition classes and official practice classes of sports, games or college events.
  • The students are advised to see regularly the notices displayed on the institute/hostel’s notice boards. The notice displayed on these notice boards shall be deemed to have been served on the students.
  • It is compulsory for the students to attend functions/activities organized by the institute on various occasions like Independence Day, Republic Day, and Annual Day, etc. whether the function falls on a working day or on holidays. Absence from such functions without valid reasons will invite disciplinary action.
  • Each student shall conduct herself/himself, both inside and outside the campus of the institute in a manner befitting a student of a prestigious institute. Each student should show due respect and courtesy to the teachers, administrators, staff of the institute, and to the visitors as well as fellow students.
